Rally to Give Challenge coming up NEXT WEEK! 🥫🍗🥔🥧
WNEM News has put a challenge to all of the school districts in the area that it serves called the Rally to Give! All donated items will be going to the CARE Program Dinners for Thanksgiving & to the 24 Hour Wilderness Zoo Community Cupboard! Let’s do THE MOST GOOD by donating the week of Nov. 2-6th!

This week Mr. Lewicki and Mrs. Geister had Roneka Matheny Billings from the Michigan Center for Civic Education as well as the Saginaw County Clerk, Vanessa Guerra come to their classes to teach the students about voting. Students learned all about the process from registering to vote to casting the ballot, and even got to participate in a hands on session voting with a real tabulation machine. The students got to hear the results of their votes read from the tabulation receipt done by the machine at the end of class. They got to ask questions about what you can bring to the polls, if you can take photos, how votes are verified when someone calls a recount, where the Birch Run polling location is, your rights as a voter, early voting opportunities in person and by mail, and so many more things related to voting. Birch Run Schools are providing so many special opportunities to the students to give them an education that prepares them for life! 🐾💙💛🐾
Did you know that you can bring your children to the polls with you? Our guests encouraged students to go to the polls with their parents on Nov. 3rd to see the process so they know what to do when they are old enough to vote.
Did you know that this year there was a competition to design new “I voted” stickers? When you get one this year, it might have been designed by a student in Michigan! In two years, our panthers are going to submit some designs!
Did you know that students aged 16-17 can pre-register to vote and then when they turn 18, they will already be registered?

This week Mrs. Cole’s Psychology class made sensory boxes with different objects inside that students could only feel and could not see to learn about cognitive sensation and make perception less abstract. Students included all kinds of items in the boxes, and everyone had to make their best guesses at what was inside. Another aspect of the sensation and perception projects were wearing goggles that distorted how you see. Students also got to try miracle berries which completely change the taste of different foods to sweet no matter how sour, salty, or bitter they normally are. Sometimes we take our senses for granted and when we have to rely on only one it is way harder than we think! 🐾💙💛🐾

The Birch Run High School Drama class is excited to present Newsies Jr. on Friday, November 20th at 7 p.m. and Saturday, November 21st at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

We are getting Community Education classes developed ready to start! The Writer's Group is the first one available for registration. You can find the classes on our school website, and I will be sending notifications through thrillshare & facebook. Depending on the class, you might see flyers posted around town as well.

The writer's group will meet bi-weekly on Tuesday evenings and provides a space to share your pieces, get feedback, and connect with other people who share an interest in writing. Guest speakers will come from time to time to present on topics like publishing, poetry, writing articles, promoting your work, and other writing related topics. There is no charge to be a part of the writer's group, it is open to those 18 and up in our greater community.

At Homecoming this year, Mr. Bossenberger invited Alumni to join the band out on the field. The alumni band members who played graduated in years from 1979 up to 2026. The band played current music and music from “back when”, and of course the alumni joined the band in a rousing playing of the BRHS Fight Song! Mr. B invited Mr. Reed who was the band director for 31 years at Birch Run to honor him on the field at the game. Mr. Reed attended the University of Michigan, served at West Point, and then brought his training and expertise back to Birch Run where he grew up. Mr. Reed not only taught at Birch Run, but he is an alumni from 1966! It is wonderful to see panthers come back & get involved at Homecoming! Thank you all for being a part of & sharing your music!

“Nothing Gold Can Stay”
Last week Mrs. Swearingen’s English-1 class wrote their own poems. They were inspired by the book, “The Outsiders”, and used the same rhyme scheme as the Robert Frost poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay” that is a part of the story. This poem aligns perfectly with fall and is a great way to tie the themes of the poem to the story and practice their own poetry writing. 🐾💙💛🐾

Yesterday, the MGMS Student Council attended a leadership workshop in Frankenmuth. You can see in the pictures that students had a great time! They learned about group dynamics, communication, event planning, team building, time management, and more! Our students got to interact and learn from their peers at other schools as well. The seeds that are planted today will keep growing as the students progress! 🐾💙💛🐾

Thursday, Mr. Maksimchuk had a distinguished guest in his 21st Century Wars class, Mr. Andrew Morzinski, who was active duty stationed at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne from 2011-2015 and was in the Michigan National Guard from 2015-2018. He was deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait while in the Army. He came to speak to the students about his experiences in both humanitarian efforts he was a part of in the military, and his combat experiences. He was a medic in the Army National Guard.
He talked about how his world view was shocked when he initially got to Afghanistan and how many of his misconceptions were totally changed once he went.
Nowadays, Andrew plays for the Spirit Warriors Hockey Team which is connected to the Saginaw Spirit and provides veterans the opportunity to play for little or no cost.
We are proud to see our Birch Run Panthers and what they have done since graduation! Mr. Morzinski had some of the same teachers that the students in the class have now. Thank you for coming home and sharing your experiences with the students at BRHS!

2026 BR Cross Country Football Legacy Run! 🏈
To celebrate 75 years of Birch Run Football, the cross country team went on a Legacy Run, carrying a game ball across town gathering signatures from some of out oldest known alumni!
Where our legacy run took us...
• 📍 Stop 1: Ray Parlberg (Class of 1952)
• 📍 Stop 2: 7-Eleven where they meet up for coffee – Here we heard football stories that involved an 18 game winning streak from the legendary trio of Robert Letterman (Class of 1953), Glen Tanner (Class of 1954), and Claude Tanner (Class of 1956).
• 📍 Stop 3: Birch Run Fields Assisted Living – Our final leg brought us to visit Richard Letterman from the Class of 1945! We also had the honor of learning from the residents what high school was like for them while serving them donuts and cider.
• 📍 Stop 4: We relayed the ball to the Mausolf house for lunch. Shout out to the Koskinen's for helping with food!
The Cross Country Team connected our past to present and is setting the example for our future at Birch Run! Way to be!!! 💙💛
