Parenting in a world of phones, gaming, social media, and screens can feel complicated. There are a lot of questions, a lot of opinions, and rarely one perfect answer.
That’s why we’re inviting parents and caregivers to join us for Raising Resilient Kids: Navigating the Pitfalls of a Screen-Based Childhood with Tracey Galgoci, MA, LPC.
This will be a practical, welcoming, and judgment-free conversation about raising kids in today’s digital world. Come as you are, bring your questions, and hear realistic ideas you can use with your own family.
There is no expectation to have it all figured out. This is a space for honest conversation, questions, and practical strategies that can work in real family life. You do not have children attending BR Schools to attend.

Yesterday, Mrs. Geister had a distinguished guest from the University of Michigan, Flint.
Dr. Saks came to the Government Classes to speak in depth about the Bill of Rights. Students came up with real life scenarios, and Dr. Saks discussed how the bill of rights applies in these different scenarios to better understand how the law is applied in real life. They discussed things like search and seizure, evidence, how technology has developed and changed case law, cell phones and supreme court cases, privacy, dress codes, and far more. Thank you Dr. Saks for spending time at BRHS today discussing real world applications of law with our Panthers!💙💛

At the same time, there is a session for parents on developing positive screen habits & ways to increase resilience in your children with Dr. Tracey Galgoci!
Yesterday, Mrs. Cole’s Biology class learned about the structure of molecules by building marshmallow-cules! Each different color marshmallow represents a different element, the toothpicks are the bonds, and each structure represents a different molecule of a given chemical. Students built ethane, ethene, propane, and methane,. This is a great example of how the different sciences overlap and apply to one another. 💙💛

Did you know we have dogs on staff at Birch Run?! We have two service dogs who visit the students all throughout the year. Teachers can have Nova or Roomie visit their students. As you can imagine, they are the most popular staff members! Having Roomie & Nova help make our school more welcoming and they lift the students’ (and teachers!) spirits 💙💛

North Elementary had a team from the University of Michigan visit classrooms today to see movement breaks in action! Research shows that movement breaks prime the brain for learning by increasing attention and engagement. Thank you to Mrs. Tanner and Mrs. White for welcoming Dr. Hassan and her team to North. Birch Run Area Schools takes pride in initiatives that are supported by the Whole School. Whole Child. Whole Community (WSCC) Framework. 💙💛

Yesterday, Mrs. Rosencrants’ Algebra classes played “Algebra Battleship”! Students had to solve two part equations in order to play. If they solved their equations correctly, they were able to identify their partner’s battleships! Mrs. Rosencrants is going above and beyond to present her subject in a creative way! Students are not only solving equations, they are going a step farther & learning to work together in the process. 💙💛
We're going to start doing Granny Squares to make a blanket that we will donate!
Feel free to bring your own needlecraft project and just have an hour to work on it & meet other people who crochet, knit, needlepoint, etc!
Babysitting Course
Get certified as a babysitter for FREE! Open to students ages 11-17. Only 30 spots available. Learn all about babysitting from how to keep babies and toddlers safe to how to make your babysitting business. You can sign up for the CPR class as well and be really prepared! Late bus is available for the babysitting course.

On Tuesday, our young scientists made predictions about whether an apple would sink or float in water. Then, they put their hypotheses to the test and recorded their findings!
