Yesterday, Mrs. Cole’s Biology class learned about the structure of molecules by building marshmallow-cules! Each different color marshmallow represents a different element, the toothpicks are the bonds, and each structure represents a different molecule of a given chemical. Students built ethane, ethene, propane, and methane,. This is a great example of how the different sciences overlap and apply to one another. 💙💛

Using Friday Night Lights to bring awareness 💚 Unbelievably proud of our Panthers who attended the Varsity Football Game at New Lothrop this past week to honor and bring awareness to Buddy Miller’s story. Though the teams were adversaries on the field, the students showed incredible sportsmanship by wearing lime green and making signs to recognize Buddy Miller, who would have been a senior this year on the New Lothrop team. Buddy passed away in 2018 due to DIPG, an aggressive and rare form of pediatric cancer. The students wore lime green to help bring awareness to Buddy’s story which lives on now through the Team Buddy Forever Foundation which provides financial help to families dealing with the hardships that go with their child receiving treatment like transportation & travel to treatment, food, utilities, and vehicle payments to name a few. We will be holding another later in the year!

The Sculpture class at BRHS will have their own relief sculptures turned into cast iron this weekend at the Fire Arts Festival in Frankenmuth! Tomorrow, they will be heading to the festival and will carve designs into sand and artisans will be casting those as well! Learning from these artists up close is such a special opportunity!

Did you know we have dogs on staff at Birch Run?! We have two service dogs who visit the students all throughout the year. Teachers can have Nova or Roomie visit their students. As you can imagine, they are the most popular staff members! Having Roomie & Nova help make our school more welcoming and they lift the students’ (and teachers!) spirits 💙💛

North Elementary had a team from the University of Michigan visit classrooms today to see movement breaks in action! Research shows that movement breaks prime the brain for learning by increasing attention and engagement. Thank you to Mrs. Tanner and Mrs. White for welcoming Dr. Hassan and her team to North. Birch Run Area Schools takes pride in initiatives that are supported by the Whole School. Whole Child. Whole Community (WSCC) Framework. 💙💛

Looking for Birch Run alumni or anyone with ties to Birch Run who served in the Iraq or Afghanistan Wars to speak to our 21st Century Wars class at Birch Run High School. Class is from 12:28pm-1:27pm every day.

We'd love for our students to hear firsthand experiences and perspectives from those who served.

Yesterday, Mrs. Rosencrants’ Algebra classes played “Algebra Battleship”! Students had to solve two part equations in order to play. If they solved their equations correctly, they were able to identify their partner’s battleships! Mrs. Rosencrants is going above and beyond to present her subject in a creative way! Students are not only solving equations, they are going a step farther & learning to work together in the process. 💙💛

The District is hard at work planning for an addition to North Elementary. This much-needed new space will add 5 new classrooms. North Elementary is home to about 750 little Panthers and is busting at the seams due to our expanded preschool offerings. We can’t wait to add these new classrooms! Thank you to voters for approving the May 2026 Bond, which will fund this new space.
